Even if you are not among those lining up for a iPad2, if you own a portable device from Apple, the chances are that it can now be newer, in a sense. Apple's new mobile operating system, iOS 4.3, is out for the iPad, iPhone4, 3GS and third and fourth generation iPod touches.
As widely reported, there are many new features that make it easier to share content wirelessly between your device and your computer or even your TV. One features, rotate your device into a personal WiFi hotspot, is for iPhone only.
The update now requires all in-app purchases to now a password. The change is probably spurred in no small part by the recent controversy surrounding the "Smurf Village" app, a free app which makes parents their children to use, only to later discover that children were racking up charges buying stuff inside the game, no authentication is required. This update helps to a screeching halt.
The iOS 4.3 update is free, but if you already haven't gotten, a prompt will ask if you would like to upgrade the next time that you synchronize with iTunes.
Those who are anti-bandwagon types supported by the latest i-spotting products have a new app to be excited about. The short list of apps optimized for honeycomb, the first Android operating system designed for tablets such as Motorola's Xoom, grows bit by bit.
"Vintage Comic Droid," such a free app, gives access to more than 3000 public domain comic books. In other words, these old school comic books open to use and distribute, no royalties required.
It probably comes as little surprise that none of the major DC or Marvel titles in there, but many others may surprise you. It feels kind of like your company a really old comic book in your hand, but without the fear of bending the page and reduce the resale value.
"Vintage comic Droid" is for Android phones and tables and is free.
