TV design diva, Candice Olson-Vancouver Sun

After eight years of Divine Design on HGTV launched Candice Olson his new show, Candice tells all, on new years day. It contains a principle or scheme per episode. With her team Olson goes behind the scenes show shock and construction slowdown. Olson, mother of two young children, spoke by telephone from Toronto.

Q: who or what inspired you to become a designer?

A: I always knew I wanted to do something in the art. And I knew I could not always play volleyball. (Olson was a member of Canada's women's volleyball team). I have a certain interior design from Ryerson University in Toronto. With almost 20 years in the company, I am really excited about the new show. There is a genuine thirst for great design, which not only informative but also entertaining.

Q: what defines your sense of style?

A: I look first and foremost to clients. It is their place, their home, their lifestyle. This should be a space that is on them, not me. There has never been a room that someone does not want. There have been guest rooms, which were not my style. I bring sensitivity to a more modern, relaxed and leaves room.

Q: what are some of your favorite design tricks?

A: probably not a trick, but overlooked, lighting. I love the user lighting tricks to educate highlights. When I started [as a designer], I had to take a $ 30 blouse and with proper lighting make it looks like a $ 300 blouse. I use, in residential design. Take under gardiner--with proper lighting, they can see more expensive.

Q. What is the biggest design mistake homeowners make?

A: a lot of time and not people a reality check. They see something in a magazine that they suffer. But does it work for your lifestyle?

Q: what do you see as a trend?

A: people are looking for modern modern with natural materials. This element of craftsmanship brings softness and heat to modern design.
