The unthinkable has happened. Motorola decided to work on the milestone, the European version of the original Droid, Android 2.2 Froyo.
Last year we heard that Moto was first not sure whether the milestone upgrade or not, then that is the update will be available in September (in Germany at least) and, finally, that it is somewhere in the last quarter of 2010 will happen. Of course, none of those things happened, and almost a quarter of an hour later, it's finally here. Of course, now Motorola can have updated the milestone to gingerbread, but who clearly have some people steer clear of the milestone 2 and go for the much cheaper original, so it was a no go.
Anyway, milestone owners should be happy (if there are any left). Their phone is finally stepping into 2010. It's too bad 2011 though.
The update has not been through the ether, which means that the execution of a computer and a cable will involve. Motorola also says, that after the update your phone can work slower than before, and suggests limiting the number of open applications as a solution. Both good things a bit off, since Froyo faster than Android 2.1, and since Android can manage applications open by itself pretty well. Or maybe this update was a rush job. After all, it is only since about 9 months Froyo was released, and perhaps need Motorola more time to test it. Who knows.
Note also that you have all your apps and settings loses. A small price to pay, perhaps for the honor of receiving such an update. Read the Release Notes available in PDF form here to check all the new bits in the update.
